The future planning is aimed at providing directions for development of National Zoological Park. In coming 20 years i.e. 2012- 2013 to 2030-2031 with a provision of review after 10 years. The proposal of development is based on the site requirements, visitor profile, availability of water and electricity, vegetation, climatic conditions and resources available with management. The recommendation of CZA, various institutes and the in-house planning committee have been taken into consideration in formulation of action plan.
The Zoological Park is categorized as Large Zoo by CZA and as per their guidelines NZP aimed to display animals keeping in view the local habitat, climatic conditions and the resources available as under:
Species of the local area/eco system | 30% of the total species displayed |
Species of the region | 30% of the total species displayed |
Species of Nation | 30% of the species displayed |
Selected exotic species | 10% of the species displayed. |
It is very difficult to stick to the above ratio due to non availability of required species, display area and resources. However, efforts are made in the collection plan to come closer to this ratio as much as possible.
